No Need to Rush!

No Need to Rush!

Over the past several days, I’ve had multiple discussions about timelines for projects that I am moving forward. The service provider always asks how quickly the work needs to be done and I always reply:

I want to move ahead as quickly as possible – without rushing.

Rushing wastes time. In rushing, you frequently do something – big or small – that you regret.

And part of the reason you regret it is that you know you wouldn’t have made the decision to do that particular thing if you had not been rushing.

How can you avoid rushing?

If your child is about to swallow a poisonous substance

the oil in the frying pan on the stove is on fire

then you need to rush to do something about it!

But thankfully, there are precious few reasons that you need to rush to do something in your business.

So, the next time you find yourself feeling anxious and thinking “I need to do something NOW,”

here’s what I recommend you do:

  1. Take a step back and breathe.
  2. Ask yourself, “What is the worst thing that can happen if I don’t take action right now?”
  3. Write that thing down.

In the time it takes you to accomplish these three steps, chances are great that your mind will clear, your anxiety will subside, and you’ll be able to listen to your gut about what to do next.

Once you’ve listened to your gut

you can re-engage your head and create a plan for how to move forward.

And remember…

Sometimes, the best plan is to do nothing at all!

Are you prone to making quick decisions that you often regret? Tell me about it in the comments below!
