With the horrible colds and flu that are plaguing the U.S. and Europe, I hope you’re in the best of health as you’re reading this message!
I thought I might be catching something last weekend. I was on my way to a party as I noticed a tingling in my eyes and a catch in my throat. I kept having to cough and thought to myself:
Okay, this is it! I’ve managed to stay well while everyone else around me is sick but the viruses are finally catching up with me!
I went to the party and the excitement of seeing old friends carried me through the evening. I had a great time, but I went home early and went straight to bed.
The following day I woke up after 9 AM, which is UNHEARD OF for me. (I’m generally up no later than 7 AM.)
And I felt GREAT!
With the avalanche of blessings that has entered my life over the past several weeks, I’ve been telling everyone I know that I need to stay healthy to keep up with and take advantage of the opportunities coming my way.
It might seem ironic, but to do this, I’ve limited my activities each day to avoid self-imposed stress.
And I’ve made my best effort to get a full night’s sleep every night.
During the days leading up to my fleeting encounter with illness, I would wake up every few hours to look at the clock. Not exactly insomnia, but it was less than tranquil sleep.
And when I awoke in the morning, my mind was racing with anticipation of all the exciting things scheduled for the day. When I felt a little peaked, I pushed through, telling myself I’d take a nap later.
Which I never did.
That behavior brought me to the brink of illness as I headed toward the party last weekend. I believe that the full night of uninterrupted sleep I enjoyed when I came home afterward is what saved me from succumbing to a cold or flu.
Moral of the story: Even when things are going great in your business, you need to pay attention to the amount of sleep you get every day!
How well are you sleeping? Are you getting what you know to be your optimal amount of shut eye each night?
And are you able to take a nap during the day if need be?
Tell me in the comments below how your sleep habits are helping or hindering your business activities!
